Ingredients:

For the Burger Patties:

  • 500g ground beef (80% lean)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying)

For the Toppings:

  • 2 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 cup gherkins, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons 1000 Island dressing
  • 4 cheddar slices
  • 1 tablespoon French mustard

For the burger Buns:

  • 2 sesame seed buns (with both black and white sesame seeds)

Instructions:

Caramelize the Onions:

  • In a skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden and soft, about 15 minutes. Set aside.

Cook the Burger Patties:

  • While the onions are caramelizing, divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties.
  • Season each patty with salt and black pepper.
  • Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side and then put slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and wait until cheese melt.

Sauté the Bell Pepper:

  • In the same pan, add the sliced bell pepper and sauté for 2-3 minutes until they’re slightly softened and slightly charred. Set aside.

Assemble the Burger:

  • Toast the sesame buns lightly on a skillet or in the oven.
  • On the bottom half of each bun, spread a tablespoon of 1000 Island dressing.
  • Then place few slices of gherkins,  the first beef patty on top, followed by a layer of caramelized onions, fried bell peppers.
  • Add the second beef patty, then carmelized onion. Spread French mustard on top half of the bun and place it on the burger to complete it.
